The Guardian revealed last week that the  Government’s database of rogue landlords set up in April this year remains empty over six months later. The database was set up as part of the Government’s crackdown on landlords who let out unsafe and substandard accommodation. The database is only open to local councils and not to the public. The Ministry for Housing Communities and Local Government explained that only landlords prosecuted since April could be included and expected entries in the New Year. The database is only open to local councils and not to the public for reasons that are secret. The Guardian obtained all their information through Freedom of Information requests.
