The Sun has announced that according to a senior government source, the Government is planning to scrap mandatory three year tenancies.  It states that the Treasury opposes the move because of fears it will scare off investment in property development. It also states that Teresa May’s aides want to water the policy down to a voluntary system because of worries it may be defeated in the Commons by a few rebel Conservative MPs.

Of note, no official Government.  announcement has been made. Last month The Sun reported that the Government would be making an announcement about longer term tenancies and stated a time frame prior to the end of the consultation period. The Government subsequently confirmed that at that point no announcement had been plannned.
